At 1m60 we belong to the category ‘under doors’ ourselves. Of course, wearing heels is an instant solution to gain a few centimeters. But: we really don’t want to wear heels every day. And that’s why: 12 tips to look taller, without the help of stilettos.

1. The flared jeans

The flared jeans (the jeans with slightly wider legs at the bottom) make your legs look longer, especially when the legs fall just over your shoes. It is important that the jeans fit nicely around your thighs, and that they flare out towards the bottom. Combine with a shorter top for an extra-long effect.

2. Long skirts

Many petite women think they should stay far away from maxi skirts. Indeed, with some long skirts it will look like you are drowning in an excess of fabric, but with other maxi skirts you will look longer and slimmer, as long as the cut of the skirt is ok. Skirts with lots of pleats and layers won’t work for you; rather opt for a supple, sleek model. And there’s only one way to find the right maxi skirt for you: try it on and try it on!

3. Wear high-cut shoes

Shoes that show part of the top of your foot create an elongating effect. If you can also find a few in skin color (the so-called nude shade), your legs will look extra long.

4. Try the mini

When you are small, it is always obvious to find a suitable (short) skirt; often the hem ends just below the knee or – worse – mid-calf. The solution: opt for a mini skirt. You show more leg, and you immediately look a lot bigger.

5. Create volume with your haircut

High updo, an extra high ponytail… more volume = more length!

6. Wear one color

An outfit in one color creates a vertical line, which in turn gives the illusion of height. Black is the easiest and chicest way to go through life in one colour, but monochrome outfits in, for example, red or blue are also beautiful to see.

7. Wear a high waist

The high waist is back in fashion again and that’s good news because your lower body instantly looks a lot longer. Skirts, shorts, jeans… doesn’t matter, as the raised waist is visible, you will appear taller.

8. Pointed Toes

Flat shoes can also make you look taller, as long as you choose pointed shoes; pointed toes always extend the line of your leg. It’s that simple.

9. Go vertical

golden oldie : vertical stripes make you appear taller (and slimmer).

10. Pay attention to the size of your handbag

Oversized handbags? Useful! But not if your mission is to look bigger. The bigger your bag, the smaller you appear. So invest in smaller cross-body bags and cute handbags. Bonus: these are all the rage this season!

11. Try a shorter haircut

Short in stature and long hair? Oops, don’t let your long mane make you look even smaller; having your neck and shoulders covered can have a narrowing effect. See tip no. 5 and go for volume, or simply opt for a smooth and sassy short haircut.

12. Wear  necks

Invest in tops and blouses with a V-neckline: they give the illusion of a longer and slimmer body.
