Are you going to pick out a new face cream but find it difficult to choose something? In any case, these 4 points are useful to know.

Choosing a new face cream

Taking good care of your skin is very important. Not only does it feel nice to take care of your skin, well-groomed skin often also looks (more) beautiful and healthy skin is also better able to protect you against harmful external influences. There are quite a few persistent myths when it comes to taking care of your skin and very specifically when it comes to your face cream. If you are looking for a new face cream, these four things are useful to know.

No face cream can make wrinkles disappear

No matter what brands claim, no face cream can make wrinkles disappear, not even a very expensive one. An anti-ageing cream is called an anti -ageing cream because moisturizing and protecting can definitely contribute to slowing down the aging process. The literal meaning of the word ‘anti’ is ‘against’. But once a wrinkle is there, you can’t smear it away. So start on time with so-called anti-ageing products. Oh yes, your skin does not become lazy with anti-ageing care, so you can start with peace of mind.

Expensive isn’t (always) better

The price of a face cream can vary from a few euros to several hundred euros for a jar. However, an expensive cream is not always better. There are plenty of luxury brands that use relatively cheap ingredients. Keep in mind that a cream of a few euros can in fact not always contain the best active ingredients in the right (high) concentrations. Of course it is possible! A nice brand that is very affordable and yet uses really nice ingredients in good concentrations is The Ordinary .

Choosing a new face cream: pay attention to the packaging

Probably most face creams and for that matter face masks packed in a jar with a loose twist lid. I’ve heard of studies showing that women find creams in jars the most luxurious on the eyes. Still, a cream in an open jar is actually not the best choice. In this way, light, air, oxygen and bacteria have a free hand and they can adversely affect the quality of your cream. Especially antioxidants in facial creams can lose their effect if they are continuously exposed to light and air. In fact, it is better to opt for a tube or pump bottle. Do you really prefer a cream in a jar? Close the jar after each use and make sure that no water gets in, because bacteria love water. Do not remove your cream from the jar with your fingers, but use a clean cotton swab. A spatula can also but in fact it only makes sense if you keep disinfecting that spatula in between. You may have noticed that serums are almost always packed in a pump bottle! This has to do with the texture of a serum. A serum has a thinner and more liquid texture and is therefore not suitable for packaging in an open jar.

A cream does not last forever

We often asked how long people can last with a cream. That’s a really typical question that I can’t answer, of course. It all depends on how often you use the cream and especially how much you use. Keep in mind, however, that no facial cream lasts forever, and creams in open jars will also spoil faster than creams in tubes or pump bottles. Every cosmetic product has an icon with a jar with a lid and a number on it. This number represents the number of months that a product can still be kept under normal use after opening. Normal use means that the packaging is kept dry and closed after each use. A face cream can last an average of six months to a year after opening, depending on the ingredients and the preservatives. So We always advise not to use all different creams at the same time and only to open a new pack as soon as the old one is used up. If a face cream has changed in scent, color and/or texture, this is often a sign that the product is no longer good.
