A big concern when selling a technical device could be the security of your personal data. We’ll show you why this doesn’t have to stop you from selling.
Why reset the tablet?
Do you have sensitive data like banking details, work emails and contact information stored on your iPad or other tablet? Most likely, yes. But not only that, but also private pictures and conversations. You probably don’t want this data to fall into the hands of unauthorized people when you upgrade to a new device.
To avoid such risks, you must reset your tablet before reselling it. Resetting your tablet will erase all data and return the device to factory settings . A full reset is also essential if your device is experiencing an operating system malfunction such as freezing, crashing and sometimes issues related to slow operation. The reset option can be found in the settings menu.
What should I do before resetting?
To avoid worrying about data loss, you should make a backup . With a backup, you can restore all data to your new tablet . Therefore, before you trade in and reset your tablet, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab , you should make sure of a few things:
i) Back up all the photos and videos you want to save
Before resetting, take advantage of online backup accounts like Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Photos, PCs, and Micro SD cards to back up any media you don’t want to lose.
ii) Secure all contact information
Since restoring to factory settings will erase all data, including your contacts, sync your contacts with Google using the Accounts tab in the menu.
Alternatively, you can transfer all your contacts to your SIM card or SD card.
iii) Remove your accounts
As a rule of thumb, you should remove your Google, Samsung, iCloud and any other accounts before selling your tablet or iPad . These accounts give you access to the calendar, mail, contacts and other features. Unlinking the accounts should therefore be one of the last steps before resetting your tablet , as you will no longer be able to access all of these features.
iv) Disable factory reset protection
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is a security feature that prevents malicious actors from wiping and using your technology after they gain possession of your device. When the feature is enabled and someone attempts to perform a factory reset, FRP will request a username and password previously used for a Google account. Without these details, the device will remain locked and inaccessible . However , if you resell or give away your tablet, you will need to disable FRP to allow the subsequent user access and enable the reset.
v) Disabling the screen lock
Possible screen locks include PINs, patterns, passwords, and biometric features like fingerprint and facial recognition. If you disable the screen lock , you grant unlimited access to the device.
How to delete data from an Android tablet
To reset your Android tablet , simply go to the settings.
- Settings > “General management” or “Backup and reset” > “Reset” > ” Reset to factory settings “
- All your data will be deleted
There are also some apps that help with a reboot , such as Link2SD, XDA Screen Edge App or Quick Reboot App. Usually, however, resetting through the settings should be sufficient.
How to reset your iPad
There are two ways to reset your iPad:
You can use Settings to reset your iPad
On the Settings tab, go to General and click the Transfer or Reset tab. Tapping Transfer will transfer your content and settings to your new device. To reset your iPad , click Erase all settings and content from your iPad instead.
Resetting the iPad with a computer
To erase all content and settings from your iPad and reset/update the iPadOS version, you can use a Windows PC or a Mac . Connect your iPad to the computer using a USB or USB-C cable before turning on your iPad.
On macOS 10.15 or later: Go to Finder icon > iPad button > General > Restore iPad.
For macOS 10.14 or earlier: Update to the latest version of iTunes. Open iTunes > iPad button > Summary > Restore iPad. If you’re using a Windows PC, the process is similar.
Is my data safe after the sale?
Yes, with Back Market , any data accidentally left on the device after the exchange is automatically deleted and, if necessary, a reset is performed before the refurbishers start their work. The tablet is then refurbished and given a new life. All other information is deleted after the identity has been verified and payments have been made. With Back Market’s buyback option, you can be sure that your data is safe .
