Without a doubt, everyone knows about the wonderful effects of facial serums. On the other hand, few people pay attention to the correct way to use them to exploit 100% of their potential. Discover five simple rules to follow.

Convinced by your sister/friend/beautician, you bought a face serum, hoping to get faster and better results than with your moisturizer. Unfortunately, it’s been a few weeks since you started using it and you don’t see any improvement. The choice of product is not necessarily the problem. You could be using the serum wrong. How to do it right? Discover five rules for using face serums.

How to use a face serum?

1. Never use it instead of cream. Always use them together.

Many women mistakenly believe that serum is a substitute for cream and therefore stop using moisturizer and use only serum. This is a mistake because serums and creams have different properties and effects: serum works deep into the skin, while cream works on its surface. Instead of replacing one with the other, apply serum first and then use cream. This way, the serum ingredients work on the deeper layers of the skin, repairing and rebuilding it, while the cream envelops the face with a light, protective layer that keeps moisture inside.

2. Always use serum on clean skin.

The ingredients in the serum are tiny and can easily penetrate deep into the skin structures, but we make their job even easier. What you need to do is remove your makeup, get rid of all the dirt and impurities so that the serum can work its magic. The rule is that you should remove your makeup until the next makeup remover pad is clean. After that, you should cleanse your face, for example with a gel cleanser, to get really clean skin. After drying your face, you can apply the serum.

3. Never use oil-based products before applying the serum.

Sometimes your serum doesn’t work as expected even though you always wash your face thoroughly before applying it. Why? A facial cleanser could be the culprit. An oil-based cleanser creates an occlusive layer that prevents the serum from penetrating the skin. Don’t use an oil-based makeup remover before applying your serum.

4. Use the serum daily, not just occasionally.

Another key rule is that you should use the serum regularly. You are wrong if you think that it is just a temporary treatment: your skin needs intensive care and a concentrated dose of nutrients always. That is why a better and long-lasting effect can only be achieved with regular daily application, once a day or morning and evening.

5. Gently dab the serum onto your skin.

How you distribute the serum on your face is also important. You should never over-tighten your skin; after all, you want to make it tighter and more elastic, not the other way around. Patting the product in is the best way to apply it. This technique increases blood circulation and makes your skin absorb the serum faster, as well as increasing your skin’s energy.
