The Neutrogena hydro boost gel cleanser contains, among other things, glycerine and hyaluronic acid, does that actually make sense in a cleanser?
Neutrogena hydro boost gel cleanser
Neutrogena is a very affordable brand that develops cosmetic products in collaboration with dermatologists. The hydroboost care line contains two ingredients that are specifically intended to bring the moisture level of the skin up to standard, namely glycerine and hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid is an incredibly moisturizing ingredient, being able to hold water up to a thousand times its own weight. Hyaluronic acid gives the skin a smooth and ‘full’ appearance and is therefore moisturizing. So is glycerin. Moisturizing ingredients are good for every skin, whatever skin type you have and whatever condition your skin is in.† Hyaluronic acid is often mentioned in the same breath as specific anti-ageing ingredients, but in fact every skin can use products with hyaluronic acid. In the hydroboost line of the originally Norwegian brand you will discover this Neutrogena hydro boost gel cleanser. This is an “effective and lightweight gel formula with hyaluronic acid and glycerin that rids the skin of dirt, sebum and makeup for perfectly cleansed skin ,” according to Neutrogena.
Fragrance and texture
Ifound the smell of the Neutrogena hydro boost gel cleanser very surprising. Until now I only knew the brand by name, but precisely because of the name I had somehow expected a ‘neutral’ scent. Nothing could be further from the truth. I find the scent of the Hydro gel cleanser very floral and strong. Personally, I think the formula smells a bit like detergent, certainly not unpleasant, but very present. The scent is gel like, not too watery but not too thick either. The gel cleanser is pleasantly distributed by means of the pump. The packaging is very user-friendly. I have used the cleanser both in the morning and in the evening after removing make-up with micellar water. The formula is not specifically intended to remove make-up. After use, the skin feels fresh, clean and soft.

The composition
After water, glycerin is the main ingredient of the Neutrogena hydro boost gel cleanser. Cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, sodium cocoyl isethionate and sodium methyl cocoyl taurate are surfactants derived from coconut. Hyaluronic acid is then high on the INCI list as hyaluronic acid. So, although it is a very nice ingredient, I’m not entirely sure whether it really benefits your skin in a cleanser. You can of course rinse off a cleanser immediately. Why do I doubt? For example, when you use fillers with hyaluronic acid this effect is always only temporary. Hyaluronic acid is slowly broken down by the body. Even if you only temporarily use creams with hyaluronic acid, the effect would be temporary. In a cleanser I therefore doubt whether the ingredient actually does anything for your skin. All in all, it is and remains a nice ingredient, so it certainly can’t hurt. I personally find it very surprising that perfume is at the very bottom of the list, precisely because of the strong smell that the product has. All in all, I think it’s a great formula with an excellent price / quality ratio.
